THE EVESHAM AND DISTRICT OLDER PEOPLE’S FORUM

Open to the over 50’s, providing a collective voice for local people to raise awareness of issues affecting them. The Forum provides its members with access to information and advice by working with providers or public services specifically for older people. A key focus of the Forum is to help ensure that the health and wellbeing of older people remains a priority on local, district and county agendas. There is an active social club, outings, social afternoons, knitting group, Sunday lunch club, and an exercise group which has been running for over 10 years (see below for more information). Forum meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 1.30-3.30pm in Evesham Town Hall. There is a regular speaker and/or entertainment and refreshments are provided.

RELAXED LANE SHOPPING IN EVESHAM

Tesco Superstore provides a “relaxed lane” for any customers who would like more time and support through the checkouts. It is open from 10am – 4pm from Monday to Sunday. This is a permanent checkout, displaying a large banner naming it as the relaxed lane and is situated at the furthest point away from the self-checkouts in a quieter, less busy part of the store. It is very widely used and appreciated.

EVESHAM LEISURE CENTRE

Regular physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and can help to maintain wellbeing of people living with dementia and their carers. Physical activity creates valuable opportunities to socialise with others and can help improve and maintain a person’s independence. Engaging in physical activities can improve self-esteem and mood, which in turn encourages more social engagement that may contribute to wellbeing.

Evesham Leisure Centre prides itself on being inclusive to all, and many of the staff are Dementia Friends. The centre has lots of clubs and activities to choose from and allows carers in for free.

NOMADS COMMUNITY BUS

Run for local people by local people, its member organisations provide their own volunteer drivers to help people to attend their regular group activities and go on occasional excursions.

The community bus helps people to get out of the house, feel better and enjoy life more in a cost-effective way.

Why not ask about becoming a member group to access the 17-seater Ford Transit minibus which has a tail-lift to help people on board, become a volunteer driver, join in on one of the activities, or become a donor or fundraiser to help sustain this vital community asset.
